This 1975 Fender Jazz Bass is in good to very good cosmetic condition. This bass shows signs of play wear and age throughout including some nicks, dings, scratches, tarnishing of the metal hardware and finish fading (see photos). The pickguard is a later pearloid replacement. This pickguard is not correct for the era of this bass and has extra screw holes but no extra holes were drilled into the body. An era correct guard could easily be reinstalled. The thumb rest, bridge cover and original case are missing in action. Two of the potentiometers are replacements and date to the 38th week of 1979. The other potentiometer dates to the 48th week of 1973. The bridge pickup is an older Seymour Duncan which appears to be from the 1980s. The neck pickup is original and has a date code stamped on the bottom that dates to 1974. The bridge that is installed on the instrument currently is original but there was another bridge installed on the bass at some point in its life and you can see the footprint and screw hole from the other bridge (see photos). The body finish is totally original and has faded a bit but looks great, in my opinion. The neck appears to have been oversprayed with some clear finish at some point, but the bass has been played so much that it really feels no different than any other Fender neck finish from this era. The finish on the front of the peghead is untouched and original. This bass has some pretty severe binding deterioration on the treble side which I am assuming happened when the binding came into contact with the overspray because I have not seen Fender binding gas off or rot like 60s Gretsch guitars or older Epiphones. The binding does feel smooth to the touch and feels solid. I do not believe that it’s going to crumble or get worse. The date code which is usually stamped in red on the butt of the neck during this time period has faded away or has been removed although I do not see any evidence of sanding. The original fret wire on this Jazz Bass is in good shape and the truss rod is fully functional. This bass has been setup well and it plays great up and down the fingerboard. All the electronics are working smoothly and properly. It is totally apparent when plugging this thing in why someone played it nearly to death - it sounds absolutely outstanding and has attitude in spades. This Jazz Bass is a true player that has been around and seen some things in its 47 years of existence. If you are looking for killer vintage Fender Bass tone and a truly lived in vibe, this 1975 Jazz is ready to tell some more stories.
