Very good condition featuring sloped shouldered dreadnought body shape, solid mahogany back and sides with dark walnut stain finish, solid Sitka spruce top with natural finish, bound top and back body edges, decorative multi-line soundhole rosette, elongated thick red plastic pickguard, rosewood bridge with adjustable rosewood saddle, set mahogany neck with dark walnut stain finish, rosewood fingerboard with pearloid dot inlays starting at the third fret, bone nut, Gibson open book peghead, black peghead face with gold Gibson logo, single ply black plastic bell shaped truss rod cover, three on a plate Kluson Deluxe tuning machines with white plastic oval shaped tuning buttons, serial number 970375 impressed into the back of the peghead, one white plastic strap button and an unoriginal plastic hard shell case.

This 1968 Gibson J-50 is in very good to excellent cosmetic condition. This instrument shows signs of play wear and age throughout including heavy finish checking throughout, pick scratches on the pickguard and a spot on the back of the body where the instrument came in contact with a strap for an extended period of time. Otherwise, this J-50 is in very nice condition and appears to have been well kept over the years. This guitar is crack free and also free of any crack repairs. The truss rod is fully operational, the bridge is flat against the body, the bridge saddle adjustment screws work smoothly and it has never had a strap button installed at the heel. This Gibson has a slim rounded neck profile with a 1 9/16” nut width. This neck feels great in hand and is very easy and comfortable to play. The original fret wire has been dressed at least once. These frets are in good shape and have plenty of playing life left in them. The guitar has been set up here in our shop with light gauge .12-.53 gauge strings and it plays wonderfully up and down the rosewood fingerboard with low smooth string action. This instrument does not fret out or buzz - it’s a very good player. The original tuning machines operate smoothly and the white plastic oval shaped tuner buttons are in excellent condition. This J-50 is a very fine sounding example and has a very even lively woody tone with plenty of volume and clarity. This guitar excels as a rhythm instrument but also does quite well for fingerstyle playing and would make an excellent recording or songwriting companion. This instrument is housed in a not-so-great plastic molded hard shell case but will be shipped the utmost care. If you are searching for an excellent vintage Gibson flattop, this 55 year old J-50 would be a great choice.
