This 1965 Kay Vanguard is in very good vintage condition. It shows signs of play wear and age throughout including some small dings and wear spots in the finish around the body edges and the black finish on the back of the neck has worn through. This example has the original and incredibly cool red aluminum pickup covers and bridge cover which really pair excellent with the Red Burst finish and quirky double cutaway body shape. This Kay has a very comfortable chunky V shaped neck profile that feels excellent in the hand and is fun to play! The original fret wire is in great shape with tons of life left and this guitar plays really well up and down the rosewood fingerboard - it doesn’t fret out or buzz. The original electronics have been cleaned, are in perfect working order and both original pickups sound excellent. The potentiometers in the instrument date to the 21st week of 1965. This Kay sounds pretty spot on for 1960s garage rock, plinky hillbilly stuff, reverb washed soundscapes, dirty old fingerstyle blues, spy music and cheap fuzzy Lo-Fi.
